How I Work

I collaborate with my clients in a variety of ways. Some I work with directly, others are referred by a digital agency and sometimes it’s a combination of both.

Either way, I’m am flexible in terms of how you like to work. Whether’s it’s an email or phone call, it’s totally up to you in terms of how you’d like to share with me the scope and nature of your brief. And just because I offer freelance writing services in Brisbane, it doesn’t mean I’m not open to regular Zoomy chats if that helps us get to know each other and work out how I can help with the copywriting services you need.

Here's how the process typically works.

People communicating

Step 1: We Communicate

Whether you prefer email, a phone call or a virtual meeting, the first step is getting to know you, your brand and the scope of work involved. I know it can be annoying if you’re time-poor and just want the job done, however the more effort we both put in up-front the better and more cost-effective the end product will be.

Questions I’ll probably ask are:

  • What’s the copy for? (a website, blog, newsletter, case study, social copy etc.)

  • How much do you need? (do you have an idea of word count or the number of pages)

  • Who is the target market? (their needs and wants)

  • What are your marketing objectives? (sales, traffic etc.)

  • What’s the brand personality? (tone of voice, point of difference etc.)

  • Have you prepared any content yourself? (this will often lessen the quote as I will charge an “edit only” rate)

  • Do you have any supporting material or assets that will help? (brand documents, competitors, examples of similar material etc.)

Step 2: Quote

Once I have the detail I need, I will then prepare a quote for you. And I’ll be upfront here. I’m probably not the cheapest copywriter out there (experience counts, right?), but I’m also very competitive compared to what you would pay for an ad agency copywriter.

I normally quote for the time it will take to complete the job via an hourly rate. This rate depends on the medium, the target market and the complexities of the writing.

Blogs are a bit different — I normally charge per word count. I also offer an “edit-only” rate if copy is pretty much supplied and it just needs a bit of “zhuzh-ing”.

Sometimes this quote will be final, other times a “worst case scenario” quote will be supplied if the brief is … well, a little “brief”. In this instance, I’ll time-sheet the job and only charge for the time I spend on it. At this stage I will also typically send you through relevant copywriting examples in terms of the medium and/or client type.

If you have a truckload of work you need done on a longer-term basis, then I am also happy to send you through a rate card that will help you with future budgets and ensure we’re both on the same page.

Step 3: We Commit

Once I have written approval of my quote and all the information I need to get started, we can then discuss timings. I have commitments to current clients and my workload is normally booked a week in advance. But I’m also flexible, so happy to work with you to deliver your project in a timeframe that’s fair and reasonable for both of us.

Step 4: I'm Right to Write!

At this stage, I’m ready to press the Play button. I normally use MSWord.docx or doc for copy documents and supply in electronic format via email. However, I am also happy to supply copy via Google Docs or project management systems like ClickUpTM or Monday.com TM. Revision-wise, it will depend on what’s quoted (that’s nitty-gritty that will become more apparent after our briefing chat).

It's all about you.

Whether you’re a small business owner, digital agency or global mega-brand (aim high I say), my cut-through copy will educate, engage and inspire. From websites, blogs and editorial copy to case studies, social media copy and marketing collateral, I’m your one-stop copy shop!

I have been using Kaye for real estate writing in Brisbane for over 12 months now, and am constantly amazed at the turnaround of results in terms of buyers’ enquiries and eventual sales. I have even had potential sellers commenting about how much effort I am putting into quality listings. What initially started as one or two ads has turned into every ad I list being written by Kaye, and that’s because she has proven results! My colleagues also use her services as well. She is a very talented writer that writes with heart and passion, and I highly recommend her services and her business to everyone in the real estate sector.”
